Graduate Teacher Programme Vacancies

Uruguay will qualify ESL Teachers. In an interview last February with the Uruguayan National Administration of Public Education – ANEP – Laura Motta unveils the government's plan to reverse the unprecedented shortage of qualified ESL teacher in public schools.

Plurilingual Uruguay

Under its National Linguistic Policy, Uruguay envisages having a plurilingual Uruguay by the year 2030. In order to achieve these aims, the National Teacher Education Authorities have started implementing a new model of teacher education targeting precisely teachers for the Primary level.

In Uruguay, English Language Teaching (ELT) is mandatory from Kindergarten. However, the shortage of EL teachers in the country is rife. To reverse this situation, ANEP has presented a new modality of teacher education which offers a one-year specialization in ELT. It is aimed at graduate Primary Teachers, student teachers in their last year of teacher education, and also teachers of other subjects who want to teach English.
