Charity Vacancies Uk
With the problems the UK in particular experiences from time to time with its postal service, it may seem like a better idea to help your favourite charity this Christmas, and instead of spending money on Christmas cards and postage, to donate the equivalent amount in goods to a charity of your choice.
Supermarkets Promoting Charity Donation
Some supermarkets are already encouraging this approach, given that all charities have been struggling lately in the challenging financial climate. Donation boxes are placed prominently at the entrance and notices are left throughout the store asking shoppers to purchase extra items and leave them in the boxes to the benefit of the charity.
Charities Can Benefit Less Than is Thought
The argument is that, even when charities receive around 75p in the pound from their card sales, they still have to pay for production and distribution of their Christmas cards and any VAT out of that amount. In reality, charitable assistance can be much less than that from the sale of cards, according to an article from the Charities’ Advisory Trust. They have established Card Aid to assist charities with their Christmas card fundraising efforts and The Scrooge Awards to highlight which high street retailers are using charity to help boost sales but actually giving very little to charity. Even so, in the past five years £20 million has been given back to charities by Cards for Good Causes.
